Why Your Google Profile and Website Have to Match

By DJ Wagner, Founder · · Google Business Profile · 3 min read

Same business, same story

Google is trying to figure out whether you are who you say you are, where you say you are, doing what you say you do. Your Google Business Profile and your website are the two places it checks first. So do your customers.

What has to line up

Your business name, written the same way. One phone number. Your address or service area. Your hours. Your list of services, using the words customers actually search. Your primary category on Google should match what your homepage says you do.

Where owners slip

I see it all the time. The profile says one phone number and the site footer says another. The site lists ten services and the profile lists two. Hours changed for winter on one and not the other. Each mismatch is small. Together they make you look less reliable than the company down the street.

How I fix it

Pick the source of truth, then update everything to match it: profile, website, and the bigger directories. Give each main service its own page on the site and list that service on the profile. Keep photos and posts current so both look alive.

The bottom line

When your profile and site match, every review, post and page backs up the others. That's the foundation of hyper scaling. If you're not sure where yours stand, start with a free audit.
